David Lammers Artist Statement

David Lammers comes from a rural agrarian background combined with a mix of industrial and metallurgical experience.  These experiences manifest in the work through a playful use of materials.  Aspects of whimsy and wonder are key features in the work especially in placing objects in different contexts than expected and using visual tension to make dynamic work that is relevant for our time.

By drawing inspiration from both engineering and art training issues are frequently approached from a more holistic perspective and a broader idea is conveyed while still maintaining a high degree of craft in finishes and material selection.  Sometimes the materials shape the ideas and other times materials are found to fit the idea.
