About Me

Biography

David Lammers, rural midwestern roots run deep growing up on a farm in Northwest Iowa the youngest of two boys to Harlan and Bertha Lammers.  Much time was spent on the farm watching his dad and grandfather work with tools, equipment, livestock, and crops.  Time spent exploring the outdoors and doing a lot of playing outside exercising his imagination either playing with farm toys, playing with sticks by the creek or watching the animals move around; a lot of activity happened that he is glad to have been a part.

Elementary school was difficult as reading was a struggle due to exhibiting mild dyslexic tendencies.  Having a strong sense of spatial awareness while reversing letters while reading was outside of the norm and made reading tasks difficult.  When opportunities arose to transform materials into objects for school projects those were highlights in his school journey.  He is especially thankful for the ability to have had independent art projects at the end of the semester through middle school and high school as those projects required planning, execution of the plan and then explanation of what was done on the project.

The balance of engineering theory and art application has been seen in obtaining a B.S. Engineering and a B.A. Fine Arts Studio(Sculpture)/Art History degree from Dordt University 2009.  This balance is also seen in his blacksmithing pursuits and certificates in Weld Metallurgy, General Applied Metallurgy, and Non-Ferrous Metallurgy from the American Society of Metals.  The current next step in the journey is completing the Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of South Dakota.
